A Real Lightsaber?

Photobucket

So Wicked Lasers creates "the world's first 445nm direct blue diode portable laser, the Arctic". Wow one watt that sounds like it does less damage than a magnifying glass! Well then let me test in on your FACE because this blue beam "will blind permanently and instantly and set fire quickly to skin and other body parts". That's right it will catch your skin on fire, which is as close as we will get to a real lightsaber and it's only $200.00? Who sells things that can burn people alive for that much? Who cares if you have to sign a Class 4 Laser Hazard Acknowledgment Form? I will sign or do anything to get one of these things.

I know this is a old news, but today I've read that George Lucas is actually suing Wicked Lasers because it too closely resembles an actual lightsaber. You'd think he has enough money that he doesn't have to sue laser companies?

The Zombies are Here!

Like in Men in Black when they look in the tabloids to find stories that other people don't think will be true, we must do the same. Look around you for mysterious happenings that may signify the coming of such things as zombies. This is one such article:

"Lancellotti said he tried to defend himself with a garden rake. As the men struggled over the rake, the stranger bent over and bit Lancellotti on his right forearm, the report said. Lancellotti's flesh ripped away as he fell to the ground. The man then got on top of Lancellotti and began choking him, the report said.
It was then that neighbor Chantal Lorio, a podiatrist and director of the Wound Center at East Jefferson General Hospital, came out to check on Lancellotti. Lorio said Monday that she first thought Lancellotti was having a heart attack and the other man was trying to help him.

The stranger was still gripping Lancellotti as Lorio noticed her neighbor was lying in a pool of blood. She didn't learn what happened until she began dressing the wound -- with the stranger still clutching her neighbor's shirt.

"He said, 'He bit my arm, chewed the flesh and swallowed it in front of me,' " Lorio recalled. She said the bite measured almost 3 by 1 1/2 inches, and was less than 1/4-inch deep."

NERF

My brother recently got the Nerf Vulcan EBF-25 and Nerf Longshot CS-6, just more toys that I will eventually bother the dogs and my girlfriend with. And by bother I mean use as target practice. Then I saw this video about a mod on the Vulcan making it shoot full-auto:

And so I visited the Nerf website and saw that they have just came out with the Nerf N-Force which is a glorified foam sword "Arm yourself for the ultimate battle experience, in which stealth and skill are your most powerful weapons." Yeah...ok, but these things are a LARPer's (Live Action Roll Play) dream, so here are some nice LARPing videos:

God, it's so beautiful.

Why?

Photobucket

If I wanted to spend this Star Wars money, could I? No, because it's not real. What it all really boils down to is: This world sucks. Why can't anything cool be real? I don' care if we have fancy nanotubes that are lighter than air and stronger than steel. Can they make a lightsaber? No. So I don't care. And until they do, we haven't reached the future.

Imagination has destroyed me! I waited for my letter in the mail telling me that I was accepted to Hogwarts and that my parents were just Muggles, I jumped into golf ball holes hoping I'd meet the cast of Looney Tunes, I wanted to wake up in Pallet Town, but no, none of that is real. It's torture living here while I watch people like Claire or Peter have super powers on Heroes. I'm just saying we write all of this crazy stuff, but when is it going to happen? If at all?

Disney Characters Hump Each Other

The New iPod Shuffe

Photobucket

So the new iPod Shuffle has no buttons and an interesting feature where the device "tells" you what song, artist, album is being played because it lacks a screen. All if fine and dandy except for that fact that there are no controls on the iPod itself to run any of its functions. This is because Apple put all of the controls into a node running along the headphone cord with an Apple chip inside. This DRM chip does not allow any other headphones to work with the iPod unless there is an Apple verfied chip inside it as well, giving Apple the monopoly over headphones for the device. Any company wishing to sell headphones for it first needs to buy the rights to build this Apple chip before they can start manufacturing. Frankly, this is some bullshit.

Update: Upon further research, I have found that there is no DRM affecting the sound in anyway in the headphones, but the chip still does need to be Apple certified. So Apple still has the monopoly, but their chip doesn't affect the sound to gaurantee it.

USB Finger

Photobucket

Recently I was talking to my girlfriend Kaley about inserting a USB drive into my finger after she told me that her dad always has at least 3 drives on him at all time. It seems practical and mentions of human body technology fusions have been discussed heavily in this technologically driven age. (Even joked about in this Dinosaur Comic http://www.qwantz.com/archive/001422.html) Well ladies and gentlemen, after an unfortunate car accident, a Finnish man, Jerry, had a Billix Linux USB drive put into his artificial finger. The future is here and it has a finger:
Photobucket

Charming looking fellow isn't he? Well I know you're all excited to get the latest gizmo and gadget somehow infused with your body, and that's just what leading scientists are trying to do. Companies like VeriChip already have FDA certified implantable RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Chips that can carry your personal identification and be used for tracking purposes. They can already be found in passports, credit cards, and certain types of public identification. Well all it takes it is a reader bought for $8 on eBay to scan people's information straight from their back pockets:

Or even on a grander scale, this man uses a radar system he bought for under $250 and hooked it up to is laptop driving around San Francisco stealing people's identification by simply driving next to them:

Well in my opinion, RFID chips are not safe or reliable, unless you want to keep your cards in a stainless steel wallet.

Human Exoskeleton

US weaponry globocorp Lockheed is pleased to announce the unveiling of its newly-acquired powered exoskeleton intended to confer superhuman strength and endurance upon US soldiers.

Here's what I want to know: when will this stop? So now it's just an exoskeleton, but then it's going to be an entire human cyborg, I know it's a stretch but it's in the not so far future that there will be fully automated machines that can function as people do. Get your EMP grenades ready and hope that the zombies and dinosaurs don't come at the same time as the terminators...
